Australia’s leading sampleadelic maestros bring the funk

Mild Bunch is a party organised by creative force Kunichi Nomura. This edition of the intermittent happening will take place at the beginning of this year’s Golden Week, 10 days of consecutive public holidays in Japan. The last Mild Bunch party took place in December, when Nomura hosted Virgil Abloh, high-flying DJ and the new men’s artistic director for Louis Vuitton. By all accounts it was a frenzied night, and now the scene is set for another not-so-mild party event delivered with the distinctive Mild Bunch flair.

The Avalanches are the Australian group who shot to fame with the insanely catchy “Frontier Psychiatrist” track back at the turn of the century. Taking hip hop’s love of sample digging and injecting it with universal humour, the track and accompanying album Since I Left You helped the group established their name as a sampling maestro. After some years of silence they returned to the fray in style with 2016’s Wildflower, which saw them broaden their sound and draw on high-profile guest vocalists. From their omnivorous tastes in music to their razor sharp instinct for party-starting, there’s no doubt it’s going to go off when The Avalanches come to Contact.
