A masterclass in Detroit techno from true originators of the sound

Anyone with a passing interest in techno should already be well aware of Derrick May. As one third of the ‘Belleville Three’ he helped forge the sound of Detroit techno through iconic productions as Rhythim Is Rhythim and Mayday. Classics like “Strings Of Life”, “Nude Photo” and “It Is What It Is” have stood the test of time. His Transmat label became one of the pillars on which emergent techno culture was established from the late ‘80s onwards. From these groundbreaking beginnings May has remained a present and vital force in electronic music ever since, especially as a DJ.
John Beltran’s legacy equally reaches right back to the early days of Detroit techno. Over the decades he’s released a huge body of work reaching from full-tilt techno to elegant ambient and jazz-inflected electronica.
