Pitch-black industrial and provocative techno

Nan+na are a new collective in Tokyo aiming to establish a new cultural scene in the city. For their first event at Contact, they’re teaming up with the cult Pharmakist night to host the first Hospital Productions showcase in Japan.
Hospital Productions stands as one of the leading platforms for contemporary industrial music. It was founded in New York in 1997, initially emerging as a cassette-focused label carrying founder Dominic Fernow’s work as Prurient, as well as other like-minded sonic miscreants. From the gritty DIY aesthetic of the label’s presentation to the confrontational nature of the music, Hospital has grown to become an authoritative stamp in the fertile underbelly of electronic music culture – a relentlessly productive entity with an intimidating release schedule and clarity of creative direction.
Fernow’s own musical identity is intrinsically tangled up in that of Hospital Productions – as Prurient he’s explored savage noise, power electronics and industrial, while as Vatican Shadow he’s channeled those tendencies into a bruising strain of techno with global influences and hard-hitting political themes. For this special showcase at Contact, he’ll be performing the first ever live Prurient set in Japan, and DJing as Vatican Shadow.
A generous helping of the Hospital Productions family will be present as well. Becka Diamond is a luminary of New York culture – a seasoned DJ now woven into the fabric of Hospital. Meanwhile Severed Mercies artist Guilt Attendant will also be performing a bruising live set of hard-edged techno.
