解体新書 (Kaitai-Shinsho), brought to you by Romy Mats and VJ Camel, returns to Contact after a 10 month hiatus. Up until now, they have been curating and supporting livestream programs along with spinoff projects during the pandemic, and after much consideration they return in full effect, in contrast to the conventional ways, to introduce Japan’s unique artists and DJs.
Studio X headlines ENA for this edition. He deviates from preconceived notions, creating a distinct world of his own releasing superb musical productions from distinguished labels like the Berlin-based〈Horo〉, 〈Latency〉in Paris,〈Different Circles〉in UK, as well as being known for being the backbone of the infamous Dubstep party『Back To Chill』based in Japan. From Sapporo, Hokkaido, Occa who hosts a resident party「Archiv」at the legendary venue Precious Hall, a “holy ground” for many DJs, will be making his way to Tokyo. His rich background in various genres is the source of his dynamic storytelling and expression through the art of DJing. Stepping up to the plate for the opening slot is Albino Sound, who released an EP this year on the Barcelona-based label〈Modern Obscure Music〉, the final product in which he edited a nearly 6 hour session using modular synths and hardwares, will be performing a “low altitude flight” Ambient/Techno/Bass live set for the first time.
Contact floor, a battle of the heterogeneous, focuses around “Bass” and “Rhythm”. And there’s no one better than D.J.Fulltono to take on the role. The Kansai-based D.J.Fulltono is the leading figure in Japan’s Ghettotech, Juke, and Footwork. Running the label〈Draping〉with his sworn ally CRZKNY and his unit Theater 1, he has continued to stay in the forefront of Footwork whilst infusing the hardness and the minimalism of Techno, Click, Polyrhythms, Drone/Ambient, and will be playing a 2 hour set of his distinct style of「Minimal Footwork」. Also hailing from the Kansai region, Kyoto to be exact, we have Stones Taro, owner of〈NC4k〉who is a key piece to the scene in Kansai. His productions span from Housey tracks to authentic Breakbeats to Jungle which has been released from London-based labels〈Scuffed Recordings〉,〈Body Action〉, and〈Third Place〉earning him a reputation as a top-notch producer. From TYO GQOM crew, a crew known for their passion of the South African origin genre “Gqom” and takes it to a new level with the Japanese interpretation of modern African music, K8 brings her ravey UK Bass/Techno to the floor. Finally, to open the lid and light the fire to this battle, the young DJ supported by many veterans for his detailed layering of Techno / Bass / Noise / Experimental, Astma will be completing the lineup.
