Tokyo’s premier queer party hosts the techno queen from Berlin

As one of Tokyo’s most forward-thinking LGBTQ+ friendly events, Motorpool continues to provide an inviting space for party people of all persuasions to come together in a celebration of free expression and vibrant club music.
This time, the musical focus is on techno, not least with the hotly anticipated headline set on the Studio X Floor from Berlin techno legend Ellen Allien. Engaged in her hometown scene from its earliest rumblings, Allien has constantly broken new ground as a producer and at the helm of her mighty BPitch Control label. She’s touring Japan to celebrate the release of her eighth album Alientronic, another achievement in a career bursting with expressive, original twists on the techno template.
Allien will be joined by Kana Mechaniker, a long-standing Japanese techno artist who first cut her teeth as a loyal resident at Japan’s most long-standing Reboot parties before relocating to Berlin in 2009. Meanwhile the Contact floor welcomes DJ WADA, whose 40 year has rightly earned him a reputation as one of the most gifted techno DJs in Japan. Alongside his special set for Motorpool will be Crue-L label boss Kenji Takimi with his recent leftfield manoeuvres, spicing up the night with their seasoned sensibilities.
You can expect the music to reflect the atmosphere at Motorpool – richly varied, heartfelt and joyous, but also daring and sometimes startling, like all the best parties should be.
