「A festival of freedom and liberation woven by the legacy of transcendence」

SUPER FREEDOM, a hybrid collaboration party by Local World, YELLOWUHURU (FLATTOP), and CELTER, welcomes eccentric artist DJ Marcelle with an added lineup at Contact since the postponement due to the pandemic.

Over 2 years have passed since the Initially planned party on 3/28/2020 at WWW in Tokyo was to take place.  Promoter Shinpei Kaiho (Local World), DJs YELLOWUHURU (FLATTOP) and CELTER finally welcome DJ Marcelle, a figure who has supported the emerging Uganda festival〈Nyege Nyege〉and its core member Kampire, for her Japan debut for their hybrid collaboration party SUPER FREEDOM at Contact.

The electronic music by the Amsterdam-based veteran DJ/producer/radio host/musician DJ Marcelle (Another Nice Mess) is a musique concrète that scatters various samples and obscure loops.  Described as “totally enriching”, “a true ear opener”, a real “pioneer”, her “avant-garde ethno bass” comes from a unique DJ style using 3 turntables has been attracting more and more attention in Europe’s underground scene in recent years for its authenticity.  From Dekmantel, Unsound, Sustain Release, and residency at Nyege Nyege, she has continued to stay active worldwide playing for some of the leading festivals of today’s electronic music amidst the ongoing pandemic.

From the local scene we have DJ/selector LIL MOFO, 俚謡山脈 (Riyo Mountains), the Japanese folk enthusiast DJ duo by ムード山 of〈Soi48〉and TAKUMI SAITO, 脳BRAIN, Hiro “BINGO” Watanabe, a member of〈TYO GQOM〉and JUBBE’s project Rave Racers, 1-DRINK, and the hosts YELLOWUHURU and CELTER.  In addition, Keiji Haino will be collaborating with Yoshio Kuge, both of whom have been active since the 70s in various bands, sessions, as well as solo.  ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U, the hardcore DJ who toured Europe, Kyoto’s newcomer E.O.U, 7e of the queer rave party〈SLICK〉, DIV☆, the new generation of rock DJs, the hatch vocalist Midori, mitokon, an advocate of South African sounds and culture, Zutsuki D, the drummer of CAT BOYS, the psycore style of HARETSU, hard yet pop style of 宇宙チンチラ, the unique tropical sounds of 坂田律子 (Ritsuko Sakata), reggae/dub/house sounds by YASDUB, a member of the creative/hyper collective〈HHbush〉active in Kobe and Kansai region, have been added to the lineup totalling 20 acts.

Artwork for the flyer has been done by graphic/lighting designer Ginji Kimura, a member of〈Life Force〉.  SUPER FREEDOM comes to life by the liberation from beat-matching of the digital realm and making an analogue collage of grooves that symbolize freedom, where Japanese folk can coexist with pop, creating a new world of funk and psychedelia in dance music’s traditions that are continuously updated by glocal environmental interactions.
